¡Hola! My name is Patricia Gómez and I am so excited to be working with your kinders this year! I recently entered the teaching profession although I have worked in local elementary schools for the past 4 years. I completed my student teaching in a similar dual immersion school in the county. This experience inspired me to seek out opportunities to teach in Spanish so I knew the dual immersion program at Kawana would be a perfect fit.
My passion for bilingualism comes from my personal experiences. I grew up in Sonoma County in a primarily Spanish speaking home and had to learn English at school like so many of the students in this area. My parents really encouraged me to preserve my native language. I remember them telling me that a person who speaks two languages is a very important person to society because they can communicate their ideas to double to population! This empowered me to be proud of my own heritage and native language while also redefining my identity as a bilingual person (trilingual when you count Spanglish). I love the fact that I have an additional tool in which to express myself and communicate. Multilingualism is a gift that I want my students obtain. It is my goal to help my students become aware of this amazing gift and work towards mastery of a new language whether it be Spanish or English. I look forward to all of the amazing experiences we will have this year and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. You and I are a team working towards making you child's education extraordinary!
